Breakout 3B: AdServ + Central Development Partnership: Increasing our Reach of Untapped Prospects | Salon C-5, LL

For 10 years, we struggled with getting our MGOs to reach out to unqualified prospect leads. We tried multiple rollouts, pilots, new metrics, improved reporting, but nothing moved the needle. Our previous big push to reach out to 7,000 new targeted leads via 65 major gift officers was on pace to take 14 years and we decided it was time to try something different. Through a partnership between prospect management and central development, we were able to craft an Assistant Director of Development (ADO) program with a sole focus on working through prospect leads. This cohort of 4 ADOs had consistent training and uses a consistent approach to penetrate the list of 7,000. 4 months after go-live, the team of 4 is on pace to work through the group of 7,000 in less than 2 years, has uncovered and raised over $1M in gifts, and identified 4 new planned gifts. This program has changed our entire approach to workforce planning and we now use data more than ever when making hiring decisions.

Breakout 4B: Gift or Grant? If it's Philanthropic We Can Count It! |  Salon C-1, LL

The debate of where a philanthropic grant needed to be processed was an ongoing challenge that the development and alumni relations team faced on a reoccurring basis. Our Corporate and Foundation Relations Team (CFR) would spend months creating grant proposals and receive funding, to then find out the award could not be processed in the Development Office because of contractual verbiage in the final agreement. With the help of the Gift Services team, their partnerships with Accounting and Sponsored Projects, and our CFR team, we collaboratively developed a process to count philanthropic grants, without affecting accounting processes. The process includes pulling a custom report out of our financial system, obtaining, and reviewing all paperwork, creating, and utilizing a committee to determine if the award is countable, and ultimately posting approved awards as entries into Raiser's Edge so funding is now accurately reflected on donor records and counted towards our campaign goal.
