Breakout Session E

Breakout 1E: The Value of Visualization: Transformational Change Through Dashboards and Analytics | Salon C-6, LL

Are you struggling to monitor performance against key indicators, assess progress to date, identify opportunities for growth, and make better-informed decisions? Join us for this interactive session describing how to develop a business intelligence culture at your organization, resulting in an amazing set of visualization tools that will transform your operations. Drawing from the George Washington University's experience, we'll walk through how we determined what metrics really mattered, methods used to wrangle data, deployment of a business intelligence architecture, and how we created a stunning set of visualizations, including interactive dashboards that facilitate our leadership meetings via screen share in Zoom and Microsoft Teams. At GW, we made full use of Power BI and Ellucian Advance, creating direct linkages that enable officers to click on a Power BI report and call up a record seamlessly, but the lessons described in this session will apply to any CRM or reporting tool.

Sylvia Galen is the Assistant Vice President of Advancement Systems and Analytics at the George Washington University where she is responsible for reporting and analytics, project management, technical support, as well as system implementations and conversions for development and alumni relations. Sylvia came to GW from The Nature Conservancy where she served in a variety of positions from 1999 to 2012. She has advancement services experience in many areas, including prospect research and management, and training.

Nadine Francis is the Founder and Principal of Betterverse Consulting, a firm dedicated to working with educational institutions, hospital foundations and other non-profits to develop Power BI, QlikView, Tableau and Cognos dashboards and reports; streamline business processes; improve data integrity; and select and implement technological tools designed to meet organizations’ growing needs.

Breakout 2E: Configuring your CRM to Enable Accessible Outreach and Engagement |  Salon C-5, LL

Often organizations talk about accessibility testing on websites. It's a valuable part of launching a redesigned experience; however, most organizations generate content across more than just a website, including social media, email marketing, and advertising. Through the use of nonprofit case studies and data visualizations, we'll dive into how to make marketing and communications workflows accessible to all audiences. We'll also share a model for equity & inclusion in outreach to begin the journey to expand your impact.

Karen Melo, Gift Processing Manager at Boston Children's Hospital Trust with 4 years of service at Boston Children's Hospital. In this role, I manage a team of gift processors. My area of expertise stems from many years of managing a family business where I was responsible for overall operation, daily deposits and accounts receivable. Upon my family’s retirement, this invaluable experience led me to retail banking. In my last role in the banking industry, I managed a branch for a local bank. I’ve had many high achievements while working in the industry but one I have always prided myself with is in creating efficiencies and processes. Coming into this role at Boston Children's Hospital, I quickly realized that I can put my expertise and passion in creating some efficiencies with the daily tasks among the processing team. With an amazing team supporting my vision, we were able to create both a booking/ticketing system and a payment tracker. Both of these processes have led to Trust wide use and continued communication across our enterprise.
